The Match Play tournament is the same format as Ryder cup Singles Match, except we use handicaps.
A singles match consists of two players competing directly against each other. Each competitor plays their own ball throughout the round, and each hole is won by the competitor that has the lowest net score. This form of golf is commonly played in team golf competitions such as the Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup and the Presidents Cup.
This is a handicapped tournament. The lowest handicap of the 2 players is determined. From there, the other player is assigned a number of strokes based on how much higher their handicap is compared to their competitor. For example, the course handicaps are a 4, and a 10. The player with a 4 plays as a 0 for the match, and the player with a 10 plays as a 6. Those strokes are to be taken on the lowest handicapped holes.
Winners of the first round will advance to round 2, and so on until there is a season long champion.
It is imperative that future matches get scheduled and played as quickly as possible so we can finish the event prior to the season-ending banquet.
We have room for 56 players off number 1 tee on Saturday morning. If we have more than 56 players for the event, matches can be played later that day (to compete for on-course prizes) or outside the event date entirely.
USGA rules shall govern all play. All decisions of the BMGA Rules Committee are final. This is a match play event, so putts, and even holes can be conceded.
Even if you are out of a hole due to a high score, keep your stroke total, as it can be posted for handicap purposes.
